- Baking powder: ½ teaspoon
- Baking soda: ½ teaspoon
- salt: ½ teaspoon

For the Chocolate Frosting:
- Unsalted butter (softened): ½ cup / 1 stick
- Powdered sugar (confectioner’s sugar): 2 cups
- Unsweetened cocoa powder: ¼ cup
- Whole milk: 2-3 tablespoons
- Vanilla extract: 1 teaspoon
Steps to Follow
Cupcakes are prepared in 3 steps:
Sponge:

It is important to mix the ingredients for the sponge in precise measurements to make the sponge fluffy and moist.
- Preheat oven to 350F/ 175C.
- Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Beat cream, softened butter, and granulated sugar in another bowl until it is completely beaten and the mixture turns light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one by one to the buttercream mixture and stir well.
- Add vanilla extract to it and stir a little more.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the buttercream mixture and mix until it becomes a smooth batter.
- Use a spoon to divide the batter in the cupcake liners evenly.
- Fill the cupcake liners about 2/3rd full, leaving space for the batter to expand.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of a cupcake comes out clean.
- Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a tray to cool completely.
Chocolate Frosting:
For frosting the cupcakes, we will use smooth buttercream made with cocoa powder to create a delicious and creamy chocolate flavour. Chocolate frosting enhances the taste of the chocolate cupcakes, bringing in more flavour.
- Beat the softened unsalted butter for a few minutes until it’s creamy and smooth.
- Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder and beat for about 5 more minutes until its texture turns silky and creamy to ensure a lump-free frosting.
- To make the frosting more smoother, add the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of milk to the mixture, then beat everything together until you reach your desired consistency.
Decorate the Cupcakes:
- Once the chocolate cupcakes are completely cooled down, use a spatula or a piping bag to frost them with the chocolate frosting you prepared.
- You can get creative with your frosting by adding sprinkles, chocolate shavings, or chocolate chips.
- To add more flavour to it, you can melt the white chocolate in the oven or over a pan of simmering water and drizzle over the cupcake before adding sprinkles or chocolate flakes.
